Raj Babbar Denies Distancing From Anyone, Eyes Punjabi Industry

Amritsar, October 26

Raj Babbar, actor and senior political leader, visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar with his family and prayed for the well-being of everyone. The visit also brought attention to his recent remarks on the Punjabi film industry.

Babbar praised Punjabi cinema for its growing focus on strong stories and well-made films. He said he would soon be working in the industry, though he gave no further details.

Asked about whether he had stayed away from politics, he gave a direct response. He said he had not distanced himself from anyone and that he walks the path that Waheguru leads him on.

At present, it is unclear whether he will appear as an actor in a film or be part of a different kind of project. He has not revealed the title, plot or other specifics of his upcoming work.

For audiences in Punjab, Babbar is a familiar name. He has acted in Punjabi films such as Chann Pardesi, Laung Da Lashkara, Madi Da Diya, Mahaul Theek Hai and Yaaran Naal Baharan.

He was seen in the Punjabi comedy-horror film Bhoot Uncle Tusi Great Ho in 2021. Shahkot, released in 2024, saw him return to Punjabi cinema alongside Guru Randhawa and Isha Talwar.

His political journey started with the Janata Dal in 1989. After joining the Samajwadi Party, he entered the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in 1994 and won the Agra Lok Sabha seat in 1999, retaining it in 2004.

Babbar's ties with the Samajwadi Party weakened in 2006. He joined the Congress in 2008 and was elected from Firozabad in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. He headed the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee from 2016 to 2019.

He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand in 2015. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Gurugram in Haryana as a Congress candidate and was defeated.
