Practical Magic Is Britney Spears' Current Comfort Film
Los Angeles, November 1
Britney Spears has named Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as her girl crushes of the week, after sharing a moment from the film 'Practical Magic' on social media.
The singer posted a clip from the movie on Instagram. In it, Nicole Kidman softly asks Sandra Bullock, “What's happened to you?” and Bullock responds, “I don't know.”
In her caption, Spears described how the film makes her feel. “Oh my God, this movie is really something... imagine having to sit at the same table with either of them! I'd probably run away. Every time my heart has been broken, I just sit down and watch this movie.”
She added, “To be honest, these women bring my heart back to life every time. They have given me hope during the tough phases of my life. This week, they are my 'girl crushes.'”
The film at a glance
Griffin Dunne directed the movie, which is based on Alice Hoffman's novel of the same title. It tells the story of sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who are part of a family of witches. They grow up learning magic while living under a family curse: the man each of them loves will die before his time.
The sisters are very different from each other. As they grow older, they face the results of inherited magic, tangled relationships and a supernatural danger.
Aidan Quinn and Goran Visnjic also star in the film. It received mixed reactions on release and was not a major box office success. Over the years, however, it developed a big and dedicated fan following. People love it especially for its portrayal of the bond between sisters, the connection among women and its take on magic and witchcraft.
A sequel, 'Practical Magic 2', was released in September 2026.
