Why Playback Singer Shan Initially Rejected a Music Profession

Mumbai, August 19 – Shan, known for his soulful playback performances, recently recounted the internal conflict that marked the start of his career. Despite being born into a musically inclined family—father, grandfather, mother, and sister all sang—Shan felt his own voice was the least promising.

On the “Game Changers: The Music Series” podcast, he revealed a youthful desire to explore journalism and advertising, fields he considered more suitable for his interests. He had no formal vocal coaching; his singing sprouted from the ambient music that surrounded him daily.

Shan argued that musical talent is less about genetics and more about the environment. The constant exposure to melodies at home gradually seeped into his own abilities. Although Mumbai’s bustling industry and his parents’ musical networks presented early singing assignments, Shan repeatedly refused them, citing a lack of readiness.

It was only after numerous opportunities kept knocking that he decided to give the profession a chance, eventually turning that hesitation into a celebrated career.
