In a stirring address amid global unrest, Smriti Irani, ex-Central Minister and Bollywood star, rallied overseas Indians to pour funds into small-scale ventures back home. The appeal, captured in an Instagram video from a Mumbai event, underscores the diaspora’s potential to fuel India’s economic surge.

Irani reflected on the journeys of NRIs seeking greener pastures abroad, while cautioning against the perils of current international flashpoints. ‘I don’t want any Indian, resident or abroad, caught in violence,’ she stated firmly as a seasoned politician.

Positioning NRIs as guides and investors, she called for collaboration in academia, tech innovation, and crucially, small business funding. Highlighting her role with the Confederation of All India Small Traders—a network spanning 40,000 unions and 80 million entrepreneurs—Irani noted how these players often miss out on major financing.

‘Small manufacturers and women-led startups are our true powerhouses,’ she asserted. Empowering them with NRI capital would generate employment and strengthen economic resilience. Irani urged scouting for hidden gems: innovators, particularly females, needing help to commercialize breakthroughs.

This visionary plea arrives at a pivotal moment, inviting the global Indian community to actively shape a robust, job-rich economy. Small investments today could yield transformative results for tomorrow’s India.
