North Bombay Durga Puja Calls for Crowd Courtesy, Says Tanisha Mukherjee
The annual North Bombay Sarbajanin Durga Puja, set for October 10, saw actress Tanisha Mukherjee appeal for orderly conduct among the massive gathering. Addressing a press crowd inside the grand pandal, she highlighted that the event routinely attracts millions of worshippers and warned against the chaos that can arise from careless movement.
“Because of the sheer numbers, we must avoid pushing, keep pathways clear, and respect each other’s space,” Tanisha urged. “A little courtesy goes a long way during such a sacred occasion.”
In addition to crowd management, Tanisha reiterated a separate request concerning veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, asking photographers to give her space and refrain from provoking her.
The Durga Puja celebrated by the Mukherjee family has a historic lineage dating back to 1948 when Padma Shri Shashadhar Mukherjee and his wife Satirani organized the first ceremony. Their descendants, including Kajol’s cousin Ayan Mukherjee and Tanisha, have continued the legacy.
The event’s prestige stems from its longevity and cultural significance, evolving from a modest gathering at the Santacruz Shri Mandal Hall to a city‑wide celebration overseen now by the extended Mukherjee clan. The family’s dedication ensures that both devotion and decorum remain central to the festivities.
