New TN Cinema Rules Boost ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ Release Strategy

The Tamil film industry is celebrating a major policy victory as the state government approves expanded daily showtimes for newly released movies. The decision directly benefits the production of Mookuthi Amman 2: Maha Shakti, a highly anticipated project directed by Sundar C. and starring Nayanthara in the titular lead.

According to the latest administrative order, authorized cinema complexes throughout Tamil Nadu may now program six distinct daily screenings during a film’s first week of commercial run. The new schedule mandates that the initial show begins at 6 a.m., with the final projection concluding at 2:30 a.m. the subsequent night.

Wells Film International, responsible for bringing the Sundar C.-Nayanthara collaboration to screens, issued a public message thanking the state executive. The statement specifically highlighted the proactive stance of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay and Minister Rajamohan in streamlining exhibition regulations and fostering a supportive environment for local filmmakers.

Industry observers describe the directive as a long-overdue intervention that prioritizes both content creators and theater patrons. The extended daily hours guarantee that Mookuthi Amman 2 will command superior screen allocation, ensuring broader demographic reach and enhanced box office returns during its critical opening period.

The regulatory shift was precipitated by formal petitions from the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, the Tamil Film Producers Council, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association. These entities consistently advocated for higher daily show counts to address underutilized venue capacity and improve revenue stability across the sector.

After coordinating with relevant statutory bodies, Chief Minister Vijay approved a modified interpretation of the Tamil Nadu Cinema (Regulation) Rules, 1957. The amended provisions legally authorize the six-show framework for the inaugural seven days of any Tamil film launch.

The concession further extends to Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival dates, ensuring continuous operational flexibility for cinema owners. Stakeholders anticipate that the streamlined guidelines will substantially reduce distribution bottlenecks, accelerate theatrical revenue cycles, and reinforce Tamil Nadu’s position as a progressive hub for regional cinema exhibition.
