Nana Patekar’s last conversation with Smriti Irani revisited on Instagram
Smriti Irani, who balances a film career with politics, honored the late Nana Patekar by sharing a personal video on Instagram. The clip captures the actor cooking a modest fish fry for Irani, showcasing his unpretentious side.
In her caption, Irani emphasized that while the public knows him as Nana Patekar, she always called him “Dada”. She praised his candid manner of speaking, recalling how he would pick up the phone, bypass formalities, and simply say, “Where are you, dear?”
Irani mentioned that she photographed only a handful of moments with him, never expecting those images to become priceless memories. She would sometimes surprise him with a call, introducing young performers who revered him; he would greet them with the same genuine warmth that softened his often harsh demeanor.
She highlighted a sweet memory: Patekar once cooked a fish fry for her without any particular reason, just to make her happy. The actress also brought up his final question to her—asking when she would travel to Pune—a question that now repeats itself in her mind.
Nana Patekar died at 75 after a sudden bout of ill‑health at his home in Dona Paula, Goa. Emergency services rushed him to Manipal Hospital, where 45 minutes of CPR were administered, but his life could not be saved.
