Naman Shaw Shares Karwa Chauth Memories and Thoughts on Love

Mumbai: Television actor Naman Shaw has reflected on Karwa Chauth, sharing how he first learned about the festival and how his connection with it has evolved. He said his earliest exposure came from Hindi films, long before he had any personal experience of the celebration.

After he settled in Mumbai and began meeting people from North India, particularly Punjabi families, Naman says he finally began to understand the rituals, spirit and emotional weight of Karwa Chauth.

In a conversation with IANS, he described the festival as a celebration of love, commitment and the small things that hold a relationship together. He stressed that a marriage is not sustained only by grand gestures, but by standing with a partner, listening to them and supporting them through life's ups and downs.

He also pointed out that traditions change with time. In his opinion, the festival now often reflects a stronger sense of mutual affection and respect, with couples choosing their own ways to honour their relationship.

Naman Shaw has performed Karwa Chauth sequences on television more than once. Still, he said, celebrating the day after marriage in real life was an experience quite unlike performing it on set.

Growing up, he watched the festival mainly in films. While he was living in Kolkata, Karwa Chauth did not hold a major place in his life. His perspective shifted when he came to Mumbai and got to know people from northern India, particularly Punjabis, who helped him see the festival's traditions and emotions up close.

Reflecting on how the festival has changed, he said it was once a more personal occasion, observed mainly within the family, with the focus on faith, affection and quality time between husband and wife. Today, he feels, social media has drawn attention toward looking festive, taking pictures and displaying the celebration to a wider audience.

In his personal life, Naman Shaw is married to Neha Mishra, and they have a son named Kriwan. Naman has acted in several well-known Hindi television series, including Kasam Se, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kasturi and Tashan-E-Ishq. He has also appeared as Adit Saxena in Mangal Lakshmi and as Anuj in Carry: Rishta Khatta Meetha.
