Mumbai Protest Aftermath: FIR Filed Over August Kranti Maidan Demonstration
A protest organized by supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party on August Kranti Maidan has led to a new FIR in Mumbai. The demonstration, held to show solidarity with a parallel movement in Delhi, attracted several public figures, including actor Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan, his partner Lekha Washington, and cousin Jayan Mary Khan.
Mumbai police intervened, arresting a handful of participants, Imran among them, before granting bail. The FIR lodged at Gawdevi Police Station cites IPC sections 223, 126(2), 189(2), 189(3) and 189(5), covering offenses such as refusing to obey police commands and taking part in an unlawful assembly.
BJP leader Kirit Somiya visited the station on October 12, demanding that the FIR be pursued aggressively. He argued that Imran, an American citizen on a work visa, lacked the legal standing to join a political protest and therefore should face prosecution.
