From MTV Host to Streetwear Founder: Riya Chakarverty’s Journey

Born on 1 July 1992, Riya Chakarverty grew up in a Bengali household where discipline was a cornerstone—her father served in the Indian Army and she studied at Ambala’s Army Public School. Her break came in 2009 when she became the first runner‑up on MTV’s “TVS Scooter Teen Diva”.

She capitalized on that momentum by anchoring shows like “Pepsi MTV Wassup”, “TikTok College Beat”, and “MTV Roadies – Karma or Khand”. In 2012 she entered the Tollywood arena with *Tuni Ga Tuni* and a year later made her Bollywood debut in *Mere Dad Ki Maruti*. Subsequent appearances in *Sonali Cable*, *Jalebi*, *Bank Chor* and *Chehre* helped her build a niche in commercial cinema.

The tragic passing of Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020 placed her under intense media and police examination. Accused in a drug‑related case, she spent 28 days in custody with her brother Shovik. After a five‑year inquiry, the Central Bureau of Investigation cleared her in a March 2025 closure filing.

Facing a stalled acting career, Riya leveraged her public profile to co‑found the fashion label “Chapter 2 Drip”. The brand, launched in 2023, offers oversized T‑shirts, hoodies and other unisex apparel, quickly achieving a valuation of several crores and establishing her as a notable figure in India’s streetwear scene.
