Mirzapur The Movie: Mohit Malik Opens Up on Birju

Mumbai: Mohit Malik, known for his role as 'Birju Lohar' in the crime thriller 'Mirzapur: The Movie', says that an actor must avoid labelling a character as simply good or bad. In his view, the key to a convincing performance lies in understanding why a character behaves the way he does.

On Birju, Mohit remarked, "He is a man with many shortcomings who often makes poor choices, and that is what makes him fascinating. An actor cannot approach such a role by deciding in advance whether the character is right or wrong. We have to study his mindset, the circumstances around him, and what leads him to these decisions. Even when we disagree with the character's actions, our job is to find the reason behind them and make the character trustworthy."

He also spoke about the biggest challenge of the role. "The task was to play Birju sincerely, without judging him. Audiences relate to people who feel real, with their weaknesses, uncertainties and complexities. I wanted to explore the person behind Birju's actions and bring that reality to the screen."

In the film, Birju serves as a loyal follower of Jaisalmer drug lord Babbar Yadav. He nurses a years-old rivalry with Kaleen Bhaiya and harbours a deep affection for Beena Bhabhi, played by Rasika Dugal.

The complex relationship between Beena Tripathi and Birju emerges as a major turning point in the story. The blockbuster film was released in theatres on September 4 and features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyendu in key roles. Standing alongside these actors, Mohit Malik has drawn strong attention from viewers with his performance.
