Melbourne Film Festival to Honor Rani Mukherjee with Doctorate

As part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne’s 2026 programme, organiser IFFM will present Rani Mukherjee with an honorary Doctor of Letters from La Trobe University. The ceremony, slated for August 14, 2026, acknowledges her distinguished contribution to Indian cinema and her advocacy for marginalized groups. Mukherjee highlighted that cinema has been her “greatest teacher,” allowing her to portray characters that embody struggle, courage, passion and hope. She dedicated the forthcoming honour to the audiences and supporters who have nurtured her journey across the silver screen.
