Masoom Sharma: Guns Should Not Be Glorified in Songs and Films
Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma has called for an end to the glorification of weapons in songs and films, saying that gun culture is harmful not only in Haryana but across India.
Sharma made these remarks while interacting with the media in Hansi on October 25. Responding to a question about gun culture in Haryana, he stated that such a culture should not be allowed anywhere in the country.
According to Sharma, promoting weapons through music and cinema is not healthy for society. He believes that young people are especially vulnerable to such messages and that the consequences can be damaging.
The artist also spoke about the broader responsibility of creative professionals toward the nation. He said that each artist contributes to the motherland through their own medium. Writers do so with their words, singers with their voices, and painters with their artwork. He said everyone is working to strengthen their own field and, in doing so, is helping to protect the homeland.
Sharma called on audiences to support Haryanvi films and local artists. He said this support would help the regional language and culture reach a national audience. In his view, preserving Haryanvi identity requires encouraging local talent.
When questioned about the growing number of threats and targeting faced by artists and traders in recent times, Sharma said this is becoming a trend. He observed that both artists and traders are being targeted, and he pointed out that artists are often seen as easy targets because of their soft-hearted nature.
Looking ahead, Sharma said one of his films is coming soon and work on it is ongoing. He also mentioned that he had come to Hansi to meet his family.
