Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar took to his social platforms to applaud Manish Malhotra’s latest triumph – the “Maa” collection’s official listing on the Paris Haute Couture calendar. The designer’s new line, according to Johar, stays rooted in Indian culture while offering a fresh narrative for the global runway.

Johar reminded fans of the milestones that shaped Malhotra’s career: his costume debut in “Swarg” (1990), the game‑changing Filmfare win for “Rangilo” (1995), and the launch of the eponymous fashion house in 2004. He highlighted how Malhotra’s work has elevated Indian artisans, bringing handmade fabrics and techniques to stages such as Dubai Fashion Week and New York’s Met Gala.

The friendship between the two creators, forged on the set of “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, has produced iconic looks for movies like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”, “Kal Ho Naa Ho” and “My Name Is Khan”. Johar’s post emphasized that the “Maa” collection marks a departure from Malhotra’s previous work, yet remains a tribute to his roots.

Concluding his tribute, Johar expressed pride in seeing a fellow Indian visionary transform the global perception of Indian fashion and encouraged continued collaboration between cinema and couture.
