Makka Case: Court Orders Witness Testimony Within Three Months

In a procedural move on August 6, the Supreme Court directed the trial court handling the Makka case to obtain statements from all material witnesses in the next three months. The case centers on an alleged ₹200 crore fraud and extortion network involving Sukhesh Chandrashekhar and his wife, Lina Maria Polos.

The apex court declined to render an immediate judgment on Polos’s bail petition, stating that a thorough assessment of witness evidence is essential before any further consideration. This order aligns with the earlier stance of the Delhi High Court, which denied bail under the Maharashtra Anti‑Organised Crime Act, though it later permitted bail in a parallel money‑laundering matter.

Authorities allege that the couple pretended to be senior government officials to extract funds from the ex‑promoters of Ranbaxy, Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh. The alleged scheme allegedly combined elements of economic deception, organized crime, and sophisticated money‑laundering tactics involving fake firms and high‑value assets.

The Enforcement Directorate has conducted raids on multiple locations linked to the accused, seizing luxury vehicles and other valuables. The upcoming witness testimonies are expected to shed light on the operational hierarchy of the alleged extortion ring and the degree of Polos’s involvement.
