Legal Fight Over Satluj: Ranjan Calls for Fair Review

Shashi Ranjan, a veteran of the film industry and an activist, has weighed in on the ongoing dispute over *Satluj*. Speaking to IANS, he remarked that the film’s content does not warrant censorship and that any objections should be addressed through dialogue rather than an outright ban. Ranjan stressed that the removal of the film from G5, where it was released on July 3 under its original title *Punjab 95*, can inadvertently boost piracy, as audiences turn to illicit channels for access.

The biographical drama focuses on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a celebrated human‑rights defender, portrayed by singer‑actor Diljit Dosanjh. After the film’s removal, Dosanjh affirmed that Khalra’s story would not be suppressed. In response, a public interest litigation was lodged by Sarwan Singh in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, naming the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the CBFC, the Punjab government, and G Entertainment as defendants, and demanding the movie’s reinstatement on G5.
