Legal Battle Over 'Sahiya' Continues as Court Schedules November Hearing
The controversy surrounding the certification of the Jharkhand‑set drama *Sahiya* entered another courtroom phase on October 15, when the Bombay High Court set a firm deadline for the CBFC to rule by October 27.
Sanjay Sharma, the film’s writer‑director, was represented by senior advocate Kapil Sibbal via video conference, alongside counsel SM Haider, Abdul Talha, Mohammad Shah and Surbhi. They pointed out that the producers filed for certification on May 30, 2026, yet the board has not issued a certificate, delaying the film’s release.
The board informed the bench that a revising committee would be formed on October 23. Sharma’s team argued that this announcement alone does not guarantee a timely verdict, and they pressed for clarity on when the committee will view the film and when a decision will be handed down.
The filmmakers recounted the certification trail: an application in May, a first screening in July, a re‑examination in August, and a denial on August 27. They maintain that the film, which portrays the impact of violence and fear on ordinary lives, is a love story with a human‑centred message, not a glorification of violence.
With the court’s deadline in place, the next hearing is fixed for November 2, where the board’s final order will be examined.
