From Lahore to Stardom: Bina Rai’s Journey

Originating from Lahore, Bina Rai’s early years were reshaped by the Partition, prompting a move to Lucknow. There she pursued academics and participated in college dramas, which sparked her acting ambitions. A chance encounter with a newspaper ad for a film talent hunt led her to challenge societal norms, win the competition, and secure the lead in "Kali Ghata" on 13 July. The film’s success opened doors to iconic titles like "Anarkali" and "Ghunghat," the latter earning her the Filmfare Best Actress honour. Her career spanned the golden age of Hindi cinema, and she remained a celebrated figure until her passing in 2009.
