Vijay Deverakonda’s latest film, ‘Kingdom,’ has premiered, marking his return to the big screen after a period of less successful projects. The action-packed spy thriller, released on July 31, opened with promising box office numbers and favorable reviews. However, the film’s momentum appears to be slowing down.
‘Kingdom’ had a robust start, accumulating Rs 18 crore on its opening day. This included Rs 17.25 crore from the Telugu version and Rs 0.75 crore from the Tamil version. A significant drop of 58.33% was observed on the second day (Friday), with earnings of Rs 7.5 crore. The film saw a slight rebound on Day 3 (Saturday), bringing in Rs 8 crore. Early estimates for Day 4 (Sunday) suggest a collection of Rs 7 crore, leading to a total box office collection of Rs 40.5 crore after its first weekend.
So far, ‘Kingdom’ has not surpassed the total earnings of ‘Liger,’ Vijay’s pan-India release in 2022, which made Rs 41.17 crore.
Vijay Deverakonda stars as Surya, a secret agent on a hazardous mission who becomes trapped in enemy territory. In an interview, Vijay mentioned the film’s ambition, stating that the scale was intrinsic to the story, which is set amidst war, yet remains a personal narrative.
‘Kingdom’ is produced by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. The cast includes Bhagyashri Borse, Satyadev, and Manish Chaudhary.
