Karan Johar’s Response to Ayushmann Khurrana’s Early Ambition

Ayushmann Khurrana is now among the most popular actors in Hindi cinema, but his journey began with a determined effort to enter the industry. A revealing episode from those early years was shared on the talk show 'Koffee With Karan'.

An earlier episode of 'Koffee With Karan' featured Ayushmann Khurrana discussing his initial interaction with the host and filmmaker Karan Johar.

It is notable that Karan Johar was among the first celebrities with whom Ayushmann got the opportunity to conduct an interview. In his early days as a radio jockey, Ayushmann was at a 2007 award show when he encountered Karan Johar, the director of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. He asked the filmmaker for his number.

Describing what happened at the event, the actor said he had expressed his desire to become an actor and received a landline number in return. The next morning, when he dialled the number and requested to speak with Karan Johar, the person who picked up said the office did not audition outsiders or new faces.

Karan Johar responded that he had given the right number. He said it had been a generous move and that he assumed Ayushmann had potential.

With a touch of humour, Ayushmann noted that the whole attempt was aimed at reaching the filmmaker, a goal that was not achieved.

Karan then asked him why he had not told the story earlier. Ayushmann replied that he had to be careful about what he said. “As a radio jockey, I was completely myself and could say whatever I felt,” he explained.

In terms of work, Ayushmann Khurrana was recently seen opposite Sara Ali Khan in the comedy film 'Udta Teer'. Directed by Akash Kaushik, the film was released in theatres on 23 October this year.
