Kannada Film Industry Mourns Loss of Iconic Playback Singer S. Janaki

The Kannada film community is in deep mourning after the death of legendary playback singer S. Janaki. Industry veterans, including actors, directors, and music composers, have issued statements describing her as a guiding light for countless singers.

Actress Sunitha Upadrasta, after visiting the viewing site, called Janaki "Saraswati of music" and highlighted her versatility, humility, and affection for fans. She praised Janaki’s ability to render songs in multiple Indian languages, noting that her voice continues to inspire new talent.

Actor Jai Prakash expressed that the loss is a severe blow to Karnataka’s cinema heritage, urging the state government to honor her with the prestigious Rajyotsava Award posthumously. He also criticized that Janaki’s welfare had not been adequately addressed during her lifetime, despite the many accolades she received.
