Jackie Shroff revisits his friendly ghost role on 20th anniversary of 'Ghost Uncle'

On October 6, Jackie Shroff looked back at his role as the amiable specter in "Ghost Uncle" as the film turned 20. The actor used Instagram Stories to showcase a sequence of whimsical scenes where his ghostly character interacts with a group of children inside an ancient lighthouse. The post was captioned with a simple reminder of the film’s two‑decade milestone. Directed by Mukesh Saigal, the movie combined eerie settings with comedy, aiming to entertain kids without overwhelming them with horror. Shroff’s performance as a pirate‑ghost who befriends an orphan named Shyam helped soften the traditional fear of haunted places, turning the lighthouse into a playground of adventure. Though the film never topped box‑office charts, it secured a place in the cultural memory of 1990s Indian family cinema, frequently aired on TV channels as a nostalgic treat.
