Industry Legend Nana Patkar Remembered by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan paid homage to the late film legend Nana Patkar during a candid conversation with IANS.

The maestro disclosed that his sole encounter with Patkar occurred at a Bollywood gathering, an experience he still cherishes.

He mourned the loss of a great actor, noting that Patkar’s unique charisma and skill set leave a gap no successor can fill.

Patkar, aged 75, was found lifeless in his Dona Paula residence in Goa and was transferred to Manipal Hospital in Panaji, where doctors reported a fatal cardiac arrest despite 45 minutes of CPR.

His funeral, conducted with state honours at his Pune farm house, was attended by senior members of the film community.

Throughout a career spanning nearly fifty years, Patkar earned three National Film Awards, the Padma Shri and an honorary Lieutenant Colonel title awarded by the regional army for his rigorous preparation for the film Prahar. He also devoted a large portion of his earnings to help drought‑affected farmers in Maharashtra through the Naam Foundation.

Khan affirmed that the memories of Patkar’s performances will live on in the hearts of audiences and fellow artists alike.
