IFFJ&K Festival Promises New Opportunities for Regional Filmmakers, Says Raghavan

Shri Nagar – The International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir, inaugurated by the state’s chief minister, has quickly become a beacon for regional storytellers. Among the notable attendees was filmmaker Shriram Raghavan, who lauded the festival’s potential to uplift local cinema.

Raghavan highlighted that the event offers a rare convergence of national and international filmmakers, creating a fertile ground for collaboration. "Regional cinema is no longer a fringe activity; it is a vibrant part of our cultural identity," he remarked, urging Hindi‑language producers to scout for fresh narratives in the valley.

He stressed the importance of nurturing talent across all production stages, noting that the festival’s workshops cover scriptwriting, visual effects, and sound design. The director believes such initiatives will fill the skill gap and generate employment for Kashmiri youth.

While optimistic about the festival’s long‑term impact, Raghavan cautioned that consistent support is essential. "We may not see blockbuster results immediately, but a steady rise in quality regional films is inevitable," he said.

The festival, themed “Rang‑e‑Cinema,” will run until September 10, showcasing a blend of international masterpieces and homegrown projects, further solidifying Jammu & Kashmir’s place on the global cinematic map.
