From ‘Honeymoon’ to ‘Bholi Bhulaiyan 3’: Akshay Kumar’s Replaced Roles

Akshay Kumar’s filmography is dotted with blockbusters, but not every project he signed survived his involvement. A chronological look reveals a pattern of replacements across different genres.

The earliest case dates back to January 1991, when the romantic comedy "Honeymoon" announced Kumar as its lead. Production hurdles later led the director Partho Ghosh to substitute him with Rishi Kapoor, a decision that didn’t affect the film’s box‑office performance.

Fast forward to 2005, the title "Barish" generated buzz because of a rumored pairing of Kumar with Priyanka Chopra. Family dynamics intervened; Twinkle Khanna reportedly opposed the collaboration, resulting in Kumar stepping aside. Bobby Deol assumed the role, and the film reached audiences without further drama.

In 2015, the sequel "Welcome Back" was expected to feature Kumar reprising his comedic hero. However, director Anees Bazmee explained that the sequel’s narrative no longer fit Kumar’s character arc, and John Abraham was brought on board instead.
