Celebrating Gujarat’s Heritage: Mahadevan’s Musical Tribute at Games Closing

In the final act of the Commonwealth Games 2026, Shankar Mahadevan will present a tribute to Gujarat, the state slated to host the 2030 edition. The tribute is part of India’s hand‑over segment, which aims to spotlight regional artistry on an international platform.

Mahadevan, along with his sons Siddharth and Shivam, will weave Gujarati folk motifs into a contemporary arrangement. The performance also includes former Miss World Manushi Chillar, playback singer Bhumika Trivedi, and sitarist Rishabh Rikhiram Sharma, each adding a distinct flavor to the showcase.

Speaking to the press, Mahadevan said the music is intended to let the audience feel the “warmth, diversity and true spirit” of India, especially the vibrant traditions of Gujarat. The segment will run for roughly twenty minutes before the official flag hand‑over ceremony.

The Games, hosted in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, see participation from nearly 3,000 athletes representing 74 countries, competing across sixteen disciplines.
