After Decades, Govinda’s ‘Rupa’ Marks Re‑entry, Highlights 14 as Fortune Symbol
Mumbai, July 13 – Govinda, one of the most beloved comic talents of the 1990s, is set to step back into Bollywood with the film “Rupa”. At a Monday press briefing, the actor suggested that his period of absence may have been scripted by destiny, allowing for a more powerful resurgence.
He reflected on the pattern of being dismissed repeatedly, saying, “My fate seems to have written multiple rejections, yet every time I start over, I find a stronger purpose.” Govinda appealed for divine guidance, hoping the movie will turn his imagination into something tangible for the youth, who will see it on the big screen and get a new lift for their aspirations.
A considerable portion of the conversation turned to his faith in numerology. Govinda described 14 as his “lucky number”, a figure that has appeared at key milestones: signing fourteen films within a week at age fourteen, enjoying a fourteen‑year period of stardom, contesting the 14th Lok Sabha, and now, after a five‑year gap, making a film comeback.
He also recalled how villagers used to mock his hero dreams because he shunned cigarettes, alcohol, meat, garlic and onion. Defying those doubts, he said he followed his mother’s wishes and believes “Rupa” is exactly the kind of cinema that can inspire the next generation.
