Gazab Raat: Akshay Oberoi Talks Playing CBI Officer Mahok
Ahead of the release of the crime thriller 'Gazab Raat', actor Akshay Oberoi has spoken about his role as CBI officer 'Mahok' and his love for morally grey characters. He said that what he appreciates most about such roles is that the characters do not think of themselves as villains.
Reflecting on his dark-shaded roles, Akshay said, “What excites me most about morally grey characters is that they never see themselves as the villain of the story. Each of them has their own reasons for doing what they do, and it is fascinating to explore that mindset as an actor.”
He continued, “Such characters allow me to experiment with different emotions, contradictions and unexpected qualities. That is not always possible with a conventional hero. I love taking on roles that test me as a performer, and every project gives me something new to learn.”
Ritesh Shah has directed the film, which also features Nusrat Bharucha, Manoj Bajpayee, Divya Dutta, Sakib Salim and Kiku Sharda. The movie was first called 'Ghooskhor Pandit' and was later retitled 'Gazab Raat'.
Manoj Bajpayee appears as a corrupt policeman, and the story progresses within one night. Akshay Oberoi's character plays a crucial part in uncovering the case and the conspiracy behind it.
The film is based on events occurring over a single night in Delhi. Manoj Bajpayee plays a corrupt sub-inspector named Ajay Nirvit, whose priority is earning money rather than serving people. During the night, a seriously injured girl is thrown from a moving car onto the road. The case is assigned to Ajay, who sees it as a chance for large earnings. Gradually, his conscience awakens, and he sets out to solve the mysteries of this dangerous and complex conspiracy.
