Punjab’s entertainment scene was rattled when actress and singer Himanshi Khurana received multiple death threats from notorious gangster Jishan Akhtar, demanding Rs 10 crore. The Mohali police have swung into action, filing an FIR and bolstering her protection amid rising concerns over celebrity extortion.
The ordeal began late on February 12 with an email featuring a menacing audio clip to Khurana’s inbox. Another email followed on February 13 evening, amplifying the threats. By nightfall, her phone and team’s devices buzzed with a missed call, text, and yet another audio note—all echoing the same demand: pay up or face death.
Speaking to authorities, Khurana detailed the timeline: ‘It started at 11:45 PM on the 12th, then 6:18 PM and 11:34 PM on the 13th.’ She emphasized her unfamiliarity with Jishan Akhtar and her work in music videos. ‘No security needed for now; I’ll update if plans change,’ she added.
Sohana police station registered the case, with Constable Gagandeep Singh forwarding the suspect’s number for monitoring. SP (D) Saurabh Jindal assured a thorough probe into the email threats.
From her early crowning as Miss Ludhiana to Punjabi cinema hits like ‘Sadda Haq’, ‘Leather Life’, and ‘Afsar’, plus Bigg Boss 13 fame alongside Asim Riaz (now estranged), Khurana’s stardom makes her a target. This case highlights the underworld’s grip on Punjab’s glitz, as law enforcement races to neutralize the threat.
