From Struggle to Stardom and Beyond: Tisca and Ruby
Mumbai, October 31: Entertainment is a field where persistence often decides who stays and who fades. Every year, fresh talent arrives with big dreams, and only a few manage to build lasting careers. Yet fame does not always define the paths people take afterward, as the stories of actress Tisca Chopra and former television host Ruby Bhatia show.
Both were born on 1 November 1973, and both made a notable mark on the entertainment landscape. Their life decisions, however, have taken sharply different directions. Tisca focused on steady growth as an actor, whereas Ruby stepped away from stardom at a high point and turned toward spirituality.
Tisca Chopra, born in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, is one of the actresses in Hindi cinema known for breathing life into every role. Her father was an educator, and her passion for theatre and acting grew during her student years. After completing English literature at Delhi University, she relocated to Mumbai to pursue acting.
In Mumbai, she trained under seasoned professionals including Naseeruddin Shah and Firoz Abbas Khan. She debuted in 1993 with 'Platform'. The early phase did not bring the recognition she expected, but she kept working on supporting and lead roles to strengthen her performance skills.
The significant change in her career arrived in 2007 with 'Taare Zameen Par', starring Aamir Khan. She portrayed Maya Awasthi, the mother of Ishaan Awasthi, a loving parent who initially finds it difficult to understand her child's troubles. The role resonated with viewers, and the film made her name widely known.
Her later works included 'Firaaq', 'Rahasya', 'Kissa' and 'Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji'. The short film 'Chutney' gained attention and earned her a Filmfare Award. She has also worked as a writer and filmmaker, and her book 'Acting Smart' remains popular among readers.
Ruby Bhatia's path began when video jockeying was emerging as a new trend in India. She is recognised as the country's first VJ. Her win as Miss India Canada in 1993 opened the door to television, where her hosting charmed audiences.
At that time, her confidence, style and communication skills were widely admired. She interviewed leading Bollywood names and co-hosted the Miss World contest held in Bengaluru in 1996. She was also seen in the television series 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay' and the film 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke'.
When she was becoming a popular name and had plenty of opportunities, she decided to distance herself from the glamour world. Around the age of 30, she felt drawn toward spirituality. Gradually, she shifted her focus from external fame to inner peace.
