Diana Penty: Fashion Icon Turned Acclaimed Film Actress

Mumbai: Diana Penty stands out among Indian celebrities for building a strong reputation without a film family behind her. Born in Mumbai on November 2, 1985, to a Parsi father and a Konkani Christian mother, she grew up in a culturally rich environment that shaped her outlook and values.

For Diana, success has never meant constant visibility. Her steady temperament, patience, and careful selection of projects have helped her earn a notable place in entertainment.

She began her journey in fashion while studying Mass Media (BMM) at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Often described as an 'accidental model,' she joined Elite Models India on a part-time basis in 2005. In her first year, she walked for Italian designers Nicola Trussardi and Gianfranco Ferre. Her strong presence at Paris and New York Fashion Weeks followed, and in 2018 she became the first Indian brand ambassador of the global brand Estee Lauder.

Diana entered Bollywood in 2012 with Homi Adajania's 'Cocktail,' playing 'Meera Sahni,' a reserved and dignified young woman. The performance earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Female Debut.

After the film's success, she made an unusual choice. Instead of signing multiple films quickly, she took a four-year break. She felt unprepared for the sudden fame and did not want to be limited to the 'girl next door' image. She decided to work only on projects that deeply resonated with her.

Her return in 2016 with 'Happy Bhag Jayegi' showcased a fearless and energetic character, proving that she could adapt to different roles. She then appeared in 'Lucknow Central' (2017) as an NGO worker and in 'Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran' (2018) as a military officer. 'Shiddat' (2021) further broadened her range. In 2022, she debuted in Malayalam cinema with 'Salute,' co-starring Dulquer Salmaan.

Recently, her role as Zeenat-un-Nissa Begum, Aurangzeb's daughter, in the 2025 historical epic 'Chhaava' drew major attention for its layered portrayal. Her OTT web series 'Do You Wanna Partner' also explores the entrepreneurial battles of women in a male-dominated beer industry.

Off screen, Diana is known for her social commitments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she supported Mumbai Police through 'The Khaki Project' by providing hand sanitizers and protective goggles. She also ran the 'Every Life Matters' campaign with Ketto India to offer financial assistance to those in need.
