Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak Actor Dalip Tahil's Inspiring Story

Mumbai, October 29: Indian cinema has seen many actors who played roles far beyond their age, and Dalip Tahil stands out among them. Tahil became well known for playing fathers at a young age, proving that acting depends on skill rather than years.

In the 1980s and 1990s, he played the father of several leading actors, including Aamir Khan in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. These roles showed his range and his ability to bring emotional depth to every character.

Born in Agra on October 30, 1952, Tahil was christened 'Dalip Ghanshyam Tahilramani'. During his studies at Sherwood College in Nainital, the name was shortened to 'Dalip Tahil'.

He moved to Mumbai in 1968 and joined the Bombay Theatre Group, learning from directors Alyque and Pearl Padamsee. His first major film break came with Shyam Benegal's 'Ankur' in 1974, but the role was reduced so much that it did not bring him wide recognition.

Following 'Ankur', Tahil spent nearly six years without film assignments. He supported himself through modelling and jingles, and later took supporting roles in films like 'Shaan' (1980). Television shows such as 'Buniyaad' and 'The Sword of Tipu Sultan' also gave him visibility.

Nasir Hussain's admiration for his work in 'Buniyaad' led to a major opportunity. Hussain offered him the role of Jaswant Singh, Aamir Khan's father, in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. Tahil accepted despite being only 31, while Khan was about 23.

Although he began his career hoping to be a hero, Tahil later found success in character and negative roles. In 1993, Shah Rukh Khan's 'Baazigar' brought his portrayal of Madan Chopra into living rooms across India, making him a household name.
