Daler Mehndi Row: CM Dhami Urges Unity and Positivity

Dehradun, October 23: A fresh development has brought the Daler Mehndi controversy back into the spotlight. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made a phone call to the singer, asking about his well-being and discussing recent events connected to the controversy.

Dhami publicized the conversation through a post on X. In his message, he called for moving past the incident and focusing on mutual dialogue, togetherness, and a constructive outlook.

The Chief Minister's post highlighted Uttarakhand's tradition of hospitality, which he described as 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. He said the state's folk culture, warm welcome for guests, and spirit of togetherness define Devbhoomi. He added that Uttarakhand has always valued and honoured artists, performers, and creative talent.

The Chief Minister's intervention comes at a time when a dispute has been unfolding over an incident between Daler Mehndi and State Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal during a programme in the state.

The event in question was the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair, held on October 18 in Narendra Nagar of Tehri Garhwal district on the occasion of Navratri. Daler Mehndi had come to perform at the fair. During his performance, Subodh Uniyal came onto the stage and questioned his singing, taking the microphone to tell the singer that if he could not speak properly, how would he sing.

The minister stated that Daler Mehndi seemed uncomfortable on stage and could not stand properly. He alleged that the singer was lip-syncing instead of singing live, and also claimed that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Following the controversy, Mika Singh, the younger brother of Daler Mehndi, came out in his defence through a video. He said he had never seen his brother drinking and challenged anyone who had worked with the singer to say otherwise. He stated that he would quit singing if someone could prove that Daler Mehndi drinks.

Several entertainment figures have also come out in support of the singer. Actors Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav, and Jimmy Sheirgill, singers Badshah and Shaan, and comedian Kapil Sharma, along with other artists, have publicly stood with Daler Mehndi.
