Pandit also spoke about his association with Singh, stating that he was among the director's closest colleagues when Singh served as president of the Indian Film and Television Directors' Association. He described Singh as a remarkable person and a cherished friend.
The funeral is scheduled for October 28. Additional information will be shared in due course.
Singh, whose full name was Brijendrapal Singh, was born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. In 1973, he began his career as a news cameraman with Doordarshan. He spent close to a decade working behind the camera before moving to Mumbai, where he gradually carved out a niche in direction and production.
One of the defining moments of his career came with the telefilm Sirf Chaar Din, produced for Doordarshan. During its preparations, Singh frequently visited the police crime branch, where he met Inspector Jayant Wagle. His fascination with police procedures and criminal investigations grew stronger, eventually inspiring CID.
Launched in 1998, CID placed Singh among the most recognisable names in Indian television. Before that, in 1995, he contributed significantly to Aahat, a suspense-driven serial that became widely popular for its spine-chilling tales.
Singh also produced the Doordarshan serial Ek Shunya Shunya. His other credits include CID: Special Bureau, Achanak 37 Saal Baad, Raat Hone Ko Hai, Zindagi Badal Sakta Hai Haadsa, Gutur Gu, Surya The Super Cop, Hum Ne Li Hai Shapath, Supercops Versus Supervillains and Divya Drishti.
