Chennai Dance Reality Show Highlights Shilpa’s Forgotten Bollywood Opportunity
In a candid moment on the Chennai‑based dance reality series "India's Best Dancer Season 5," Shilpa Shirodkar spoke about a missed chance that defined a pivotal moment in her career. The actress recalled that choreographer Farah Khan, famed for crafting the choreography of many blockbuster numbers, had initially selected Shilpa for the legendary song "Chhaiya Chhaiya." Farah imposed a conditional offer: Shilpa needed to lose weight within fifteen days to remain in contention.
Shilpa described the stringent regimen she followed, subsisting on boiled vegetables and a strict calorie count. Though she observed a slight decrease in her weight, Farah deemed the change insufficient and withdrew the offer, later appointing Malaika Arora to the part. The actress noted that the claim she weighed a hundred kilograms was false; she was simply not within the narrow weight window set by the choreographer.
The revelation prompted surprise among the show's judges and audience. Judge Geeta Kapoor, who happened to be an assistant on the original set, confirmed she had witnessed the incident. Host Harsh Limbachiya praised Shilpa’s transparency, remarking on her exceptional honesty in a media environment often dominated by rehearsed statements.
Shilpa’s career, spanning successful 1990s films like "Hum" and "Kishan Kanhaiya," as well as recent television fame on "Bigg Boss Season 18," underscores the lasting impact of early industry pressures. Her story adds a personal perspective to ongoing discussions about body image standards in Bollywood.
