Beyond Leaders: Citizens’ Role in Shaping India’s Future

Adil Hussain, promoting his new film, shared his perspective on the ongoing political scenario in India. He stated that assigning all blame to politicians is a narrow approach; every individual in society carries a share of the responsibility.

He pointed out that elected representatives are not external beings; they arise from the same neighborhoods, schools and workplaces as the electorate. Hence, their actions reflect the collective character of the community.

While acknowledging that elected officials have heightened accountability because they seek public mandate, Hussain clarified that this does not absolve ordinary citizens from scrutiny of their own conduct.

The actor highlighted that the entertainment industry, through movies, digital series and other content, influences the thoughts of millions daily. Consequently, creators must understand how deeply their work can affect societal attitudes.

He called on those endowed with power, influence and resources to ask themselves what kind of society they are leaving behind. Pure economic growth, he warned, means little if future generations grapple with mental‑health crises and social instability.
