Behind Sunidhi Chauhan's decision to step away from judging panels

Renowned vocalist Sunidhi Chauhan used the platform of Shekhar Suman’s chat show to reveal the reasoning behind her withdrawal from singing competition judging roles. She made it clear that the choice was self‑initiated and not a result of any controversy.

“The reality TV circuit was a big part of my life for years, but I reached a point where I felt it no longer belonged to me,” she said. The artist pointed to the rise of digital vocal effects, such as auto‑tune, which were originally intended for polishing film songs, now being employed in the contest format.

She argued that the core purpose of these programmes is to unveil unfiltered talent, and the prevalence of pitch‑correction software undermines that principle. “Seeing the same technology that masks imperfections in movies being used on stage made me think the show was heading in the wrong direction,” Chauhan stated.

The conversation also veered to the safety and respect artists receive on stage. Chauhan affirmed that she has never faced any threatening situation, calling herself lucky for the consistent love and respect shown by fans and industry peers.
