Behind the scenes of 'Sayoni': Janhvi Sony’s preparation for a mother‑less role

Preparing for a character without a mother’s presence is a delicate task, and Janhvi Sony approached it with methodical research. While filming the promotional material for ‘Sayoni’, the actress revealed that she did not rely solely on imagination; instead, she sought a concrete frame of reference.

She turned to a childhood friend who was raised by an aunt after losing her mother early on. The friend’s everyday life—attending school, taking exams, celebrating milestones—was lived without a mother’s guidance. Janhvi observed how the aunt filled that void, becoming the primary source of emotional reassurance. By immersing herself in these observations, Janhvi was able to replicate Sanvi’s yearning, frustration, and ultimate hope on camera.

The series, produced by Dreamyata Entertainment, showcases how a surrogate mother figure can shape the psyche of an orphaned child. Janhvi emphasized that the role demanded more than acting; it required feeling the deep‑seated need for belonging that many orphanage children experience. The show also brings back Rashmi Desai and introduces Gautam Singh Vig in key roles. ‘Sayoni’ is scheduled to debut on September 23 on Star Plus and JioCinema.
