From ‘BV Paglu’ to ‘You’re Killing It’: Amitabh’s Take on Youth Lingo
Mumbai, August 31 – The cultural divide between older and younger generations often appears in the way people talk. Amitabh Bachchan, the iconic Bollywood figure, recently shared his experience of trying to decode the fast‑paced language of Gen‑Z, also called Gen‑Gen.
During a recent episode of the popular quiz show, the megastar highlighted how each generation invents its own set of buzzwords. He laughed at the literal meanings of “rocking” and “killing it,” noting how they sound odd when taken at face value.
Bachchan confessed, “When the youngsters say ‘You are rocking, sir,’ I imagined them talking about stones. And when they say ‘You are killing it,’ I wondered why they were talking about death.”
He also revealed his recent encounter with the phrase “BV Paglu,” which he interpreted as a playful way of saying the wife is the boss and the husband must accept it, otherwise he risks losing his job.
The Gen‑Z lexicon is largely shaped by the internet, social media platforms and pop culture. It favours short, meme‑laden expressions, often blending English and Hindi (Hinglish). This style places more emphasis on emotion, sarcasm and instant impact than on lengthy sentences, making it a hallmark of platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
