The Indian advertising fraternity is in mourning following the passing of Padma Shri awardee Piyush Pandey, who died at the age of 70 due to pneumonia complications. Renowned ad-man Pandey, a former Cannes Lions jury president, was laid to rest at Shivaji Park Crematorium in Mumbai. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his son, Abhishek Bachchan, were present at the funeral to offer their heartfelt condolences to Pandey’s family. Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog to express his profound grief, remembering Pandey as a ‘creative genius, a most amiable friend, and guide.’ He further stated that Pandey’s work would remain an ‘eternal emblem’ of his immense talent. Piyush Pandey’s sister, veteran singer and actress Ila Arun, spoke to reporters, struggling to articulate her sorrow. She highlighted her brother’s deep connection with the advertising world and his love for the country, noting his positive interactions with the media. Ila Arun also conveyed gratitude to the advertising community and the public for their affection towards her brother’s iconic campaigns. Pandey’s niece, Ishitta Arun, fondly remembered her uncle as her ‘first roommate, first critic, and forever favourite human.’
