Amir Khan addresses misconceptions about 3 Idiots and Sonam Wangchuk
Amir Khan used his platform at the London Indian Film Festival to debunk a popular myth linking his iconic 2009 role to Sonam Wangchuk. When asked whether the professor’s traits were inspired by the Himalayan engineer, Khan responded, "It’s a complete misunderstanding. We had no idea who she was during production."
He clarified that neither director Rajkumar Hirani nor screenwriter Abhijat Joshi had any knowledge of Wangchuk’s activism, and that the character’s quirks were born from the screenplay alone. Khan expressed admiration for Wangchuk’s environmental efforts, stating, "She is doing great work, and that deserves recognition, but it does not translate into a film reference."
The actor also commented on recent concerns about Wangchuk’s health, wishing her a quick recovery and urging her to take care during her fast.
