Ajay Devgn Opens Up on Losing His Father and Stunt Injuries
Mumbai, October 25: Ajay Devgn has spoken candidly about his father, legendary action director Veeru Devgn, in an earlier appearance on the adventure reality show 'Into the Wild with Bear Grylls', which aired in 2021. The conversation touched on fatherhood, loss, and the physical risks that stunt performers faced.
Ajay explained that people often view their parents differently as they grow older. He suggested that the full picture becomes clear only after one has children, when the protective instincts and sacrifices of parenthood become personal.
Bear Grylls asked Ajay about the death of his father. Grylls said, 'You recently lost your father.' Ajay confirmed, 'Yes, two years ago.' Grylls observed that the past two years must have been especially difficult.
In response, Ajay said that the loss of a parent is painful, and that young people rarely appreciate their parents fully. 'Until you are about 20, you don't really care about your parents. You feel they are foolish and clueless, and that you have all the answers,' he said.
He then added, 'When you have your own children, you finally understand what it means to be a parent. Parents only want the best for their children. But it takes a long time to realise this.'
Grylls also inquired about Veeru Devgn's health. Ajay said that his father had Alzheimer's disease. He added that Veeru Devgn had suffered many injuries because of the stunts he performed during his career.
Ajay shared a specific memory from a shoot in which his father had to perform a stunt involving a car. The stunt resulted in a head injury.
He also explained how filmmaking practices have evolved. In earlier films, real cars and regular glass were used for stunts, which raised the chances of injury. 'Real glass was used back then. Today we use toughened glass. That can still hurt, but real glass hurts far more,' Ajay said.
