Accused Filmmaker Shakil Noorani Sent to Police Custody Until Aug 12

Following his arrest at a Satara district farm house, film director Shakil Noorani appeared before the Borivali Holiday Court on Saturday. The court ordered that he remain under police custody until August 12, pending further investigation. The case stems from a complaint filed by an actress who alleges that Noorani sexually assaulted her in 2016 after meeting at a Lokhandwala awards function. She claims that after visiting his Malwani home for a script reading, he gave her a soft drink, caused her to lose consciousness, and later used a video to blackmail her. The FIR also states that he forced her to take contraceptive pills repeatedly after the alleged encounter. Police investigations have traced Noorani's whereabouts to a farm house in the Medha area of Satara, leading to his formal arrest and subsequent court appearance.
