Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel reached Mahamaya Airport in Ambikapur on Saturday. Here he saw the runway and praised the officials for the timely completion of quality work. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the development of Mahamaya Airport in Surguja was being discussed for a long time at the state level and at the national level. I always used to discuss this with Health Minister TS Singhdev and Food Minister Amarjit Bhagat. Along with this, we were also in constant touch with the Ministry of Aviation in Delhi. Today this airport has also become ready for landing of big planes. This has become possible with the 1800 meter air strip built at a cost of Rs 48 crore.
The entire area is 374 acres and we have directed the authorities to prepare an action plan for further development of the airport to accommodate more number of large aircraft in future. The Chief Minister said that after 3 days the DGCA team is going to come here for inspection. Soon after that we will apply for the license. After applying for the license, normally the license is issued in 25 days. We will suggest to the Ministry of Aviation to start flights from Ambikapur to Delhi, Banaras and Raipur. With the acceptance of the suggestion, there will be huge possibilities for the development of tourism in this area. With the commencement of flights to Banaras for 3 days and flights to Delhi for 3 days, the beauty of Surguja will be available through the aviation route as well and people will be able to reach Surguja easily.
