New Delhi: The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense (MND) has been closely monitoring an uptick in military activity in the region, with 32 Chinese military aircraft and five naval vessels of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) detected from 6 am on Wednesday ( March 20) to the same time on Thursday (March 21). Notably, 20 of these aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, breaching Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) from various directions.
In response to these incursions, Taiwan's Armed Forces have deployed Combat Air Patrol (CAP) aircraft, navy vessels, and coastal missile systems to track and respond to the activities identified within their jurisdiction.
This increase in military presence follows a similar pattern observed the previous day, where the MND tracked 15 Chinese military aircraft and 10 naval vessels. Of these, six aircraft entered the southwest corner of Taiwan's ADIZ. However, unlike the recent incidents, no aircraft had crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait during that period.
The MND's reports align with observations by Taiwan News, which has highlighted China's growing use of gray zone tactics since September 2020. These tactics involve a series of efforts to achieve security objectives without engaging in open conflict, marked by a gradual increase in the number of military aircraft and naval ships operating in the vicinity of Taiwan.
In a related incident earlier in the week, the MND reported tracking ten Chinese naval vessels and nine military aircraft near Taiwan. Among these, a Chinese drone violated the southwest sector of Taiwan's ADIZ, and a PLA helicopter was observed in the southeast sector.

According to the order issued, SSP of Bathinda in Punjab and SP of Sonitpur in Assam have been transferred. The Election Commission has taken this decision because the officials of the relatives of the leaders are directly involved in the election work.
Among the officers for whom transfer order has been issued are the SPs of Chhota Udaipur and Ahmedabad rural districts of Gujarat. In Punjab, SSPs of Pathankot, Fazilka, Jalandhar Rural and Malerkotla districts are also included. DM of Dhenkanal and SP of Deogarh and Cuttack Rural in Odisha and DM of East Medinipur, Jhargram, East Bardhaman and Birbhum districts of West Bengal are also included in this. Apart from this, the Election Commission has directed to transfer SSP Bathinda in Punjab and SP Sonitpur in Assam.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, requesting the formation of a judicial commission to “inquire, audit and examine” the manner and process of the February 8 general elections held in the country. , Geo News reported. The politician, who remains incarcerated at the Adiala jail following conviction in multiple cases, has filed the petition in light of the rigging allegations leveled by his party and others in the aftermath of “manipulation and fraud in the election results”.
The petition, filed by senior lawyer Hamid Khan on behalf of the PTI founder, urged the apex court to form a judicial commission, consisting of serving SC judges holding no bias towards anyone, to “inquire, audit and examine the manner and process of general elections of 8 February 2024 and the developments that took place thereafter of compiling false and fraudulent results rendering winners into losers and losers into winners”.
Imran Khan, in his plea, said that “all the consequential acts of forming governments at the federal and Punjab levels be immediately suspended” until the result of the judicial commission's probe is made public. “It is also prayed that all that is required to be done in the best interest of the nation, its electoral mandate and constitutional dispensation may kindly be ordered including requisite orders, directions and reliefs,” the plea added, Geo News reported.
The government, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (ECP), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have all been named respondents in the plea, Geo News reported. According to the petition, the general elections were “openly rigged” with their results “manipulated”.
“The people allegedly elected and returned to assemblies are being breaching the public trust by exercising the state authority by way of fraud,” it added. The plea further read that the country's Constitution cast a heavy duty upon the ECP to hold free, fair and transparent elections in Pakistan, but the polls were “massively rigged” and “manipulated with the help of Returning Officers (ROs) appointed by the electoral authority with involvement of even the caretaker set ups.
“It has failed to perform its duties as given in Articles 218, 219 and related provisions of the Constitution as result of the elections held on February 8, 2024, which were massively rigged through the Returning Officers (ROs) appointed by Respondent No.2 and all care-taker governments were part of this fraud upon the electorate,” the petition added.

In a phone call with Biden, Netanyahu consented to dispatch a mixed team of Israeli experts to Washington to deliberate on a different strategy to address key Hamas figures in Rafah and to safeguard the border between Egypt and Gaza without launching a significant ground offensive, as announced. by Sullivan in a press briefing.

Sullivan mentioned Egypt's profound concern regarding a significant military operation in Rafah, which could potentially impact its future relations with Israel.
He clarified that questioning the strategy in Rafah does not equate to questioning the defeat of Hamas, dismissing such comparisons as baseless.
The US stance is clear: Hamas must not find refuge in Rafah or elsewhere. However, a substantial ground operation would be erroneous, leading to further civilian casualties, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, contributing to chaos in Gaza, and increasing Israel's international isolation.
Sullivan emphasized that Israel's objectives in Rafah could be achieved through alternative methods.
Biden urged Netanyahu to send a high-level team, including military, intelligence, and humanitarian personnel, to Washington soon to discuss the US's apprehensions regarding Israel's intentions for Rafah and to propose a different plan targeting Hamas in the city while maintaining border security, without a full-scale invasion.
Netanyahu agreed to this proposal.
