    Raipur, 13 December 2023, Shri Nandkishore Shukla, who reached the venue of the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai today, said, “Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Laa wants to take the oath of office in Chhattisgarhi today.” 82-year-old Mr. Shukla, who reached the capital from Bilaspur, who is also the provincial patron of Chhattisgarhi Official Language Forum, said that he has been trying for the last 23 years to include 36garhi in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, but till now the expected success has not been achieved. But now there is full hope from the farmer’s son and tribal Chief Minister Mr. Vishnudev that he will strongly support his long-awaited demand and will try his best to include Rajbhakha Chhattisgarhi in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Giving the example of Mizoram, he said that in the year 2018, the Chief Minister Mr. Zoramthanga had taken his oath of office in Mizo, although it is not included in the Eighth Schedule. He expressed the hope that the Chief Minister and the entire cabinet along with him would take the oath of office today in 36garhi instead of Hindi and in future also every government work and correspondence would be conducted predominantly in Chhattisgarhi.

  • Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to lead the investigation into Iskcon bridge mishap

    GANDHINAGAR: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar to get a detailed overview of the accident that took place at Iskcon Bridge, Ahmedabad on Wednesday night.

    The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the nine persons, including two policemen, who lost their lives in this accident. The CM announced assistance of Rs 4 lakhs each to the families of the deceased.

    An assistance of Rs 50000 will be provided to the injured along with the total cost of treatment.

    The Chief Minister immediately instructed Health Minister Rushikesh Patel to reach GMERS Civil Hospital, Sola to assist the families of the victims and the injured. The Health Minister rushed to the hospital and assisted the families with necessary arrangements, including treatment.

    MoS for Home Department Harsh Sanghvi visited the place of the incident. He also held a meeting with senior officials of Ahmedabad City Police to get detailed information on the accident.  Shri Harsh Sanghvi and senior officials briefed the CM about the entire sequence of events and the steps taken by the police in its aftermath.

    The CM gave clear instructions for immediate legal action, detention and a complete impartial investigation to be carried out against the offenders.

    A Joint Commissioner, three DCPs ( Deputy Commissioner of Police), and five PIs ( Police Inspectors) are carrying out the investigation under the direct supervision of the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner.

    The CM gave instructions to the Chief Secretary of the state to strengthen coordination between Police, Roads & Building Department, Urban Development Department, and local authorities for a CCTV camera network and light poles on highways of cities to monitor the speed of vehicles on highways across the state including those passing through cities.

    A special drive launched against overspeeding, rash driving, and stunts performed by youth in the cities while driving will be made stricter and more comprehensive.

    Keeping in mind the severity of this incident, it was instructed to treat this case on a most urgent basis. The charge sheet will be presented within a week and the case will be presented in the fast-track court by appointing a special public prosecutor.

    The CM said, “The state government is unwaveringly committed to taking stringent actions against those responsible for the road accident in Ahmedabad to set a strong example and ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not recur in the future.”

He also held a meeting with senior officials of Ahmedabad City Police to get detailed information on the accident.  Shri Harsh Sanghvi and senior officials briefed the CM about the entire sequence of events and the steps taken by the police in its aftermath.

    The CM gave clear instructions for immediate legal action, detention and a complete impartial investigation to be carried out against the offenders.

    A Joint Commissioner, three DCPs ( Deputy Commissioner of Police), and five PIs ( Police Inspectors) are carrying out the investigation under the direct supervision of the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner.

    The CM gave instructions to the Chief Secretary of the state to strengthen coordination between Police, Roads & Building Department, Urban Development Department, and local authorities for a CCTV camera network and light poles on highways of cities to monitor the speed of vehicles on highways across the state including those passing through cities.

    A special drive launched against overspeeding, rash driving, and stunts performed by youth in the cities while driving will be made stricter and more comprehensive.

    Keeping in mind the severity of this incident, it was instructed to treat this case on a most urgent basis. The charge sheet will be presented within a week and the case will be presented in the fast-track court by appointing a special public prosecutor.

    The CM said, “The state government is unwaveringly committed to taking stringent actions against those responsible for the road accident in Ahmedabad to set a strong example and ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not recur in the future.”

    Ansa and Holappa have just come out of their first movie date at the Ritz theatre. How did she like the film, he asks her. “I never laughed so much,” she says. Ansa (Alma Poysti) and Holappa (Jussi Vatanen) are the protagonists in Finnish auteur Aki Kaurismaki’s new film Fallen Leaves which premiered in the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film under discussion within the film is Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die that, incidentally, was the opening film at Cannes in 2019.

    Later, outside the theatre, standing by the poster of David Lean’s 1945 classic, Brief Encounter, Holappa tells Ansa that he doesn’t even know her name. “I’ll tell you next time,” she says, scribbling her phone number on a piece of paper. Time spent well together at the movies holds the promise of another date.

    “In a crooked little town, they were lost and never found. Fallen leaves, fallen leaves, fallen leaves on the ground”—the opening lines of the popular song Fallen Leaves by Canadian rock band Billy Talent could well be a description of Ansa and Holappa—single, lonely, cast adrift in Helsinki. She works in the supermarket and, later, sorts out plastic to make a living.

    He is also from the working class, an alcoholic. Both are seeking love yet unsure of it, hesitant about giving in to it. An accidental meeting throws a possibility at them of finding companionship in each other. Will love find a way to them? Or will it be another lost chance? What follows is a tale of a relationship taking a wrong turn because of a lost piece of paper and an unforeseen mishap. Is romance impossible for them, like it was for Laura and Alec in Brief Encounter?

    Fallen Leaves might feel like a very simple and straightforward film on paper, and it truly is, but in a good way. There are the poker-faced characters, their banal routines, the automated existence finding release in alcohol, cigarettes and karaoke. It is matched by the film’s own formal, staccato rhythm and aesthetic minimalism. However, the invocation of solitariness is not entirely marked by sadness. Then there are sudden, brilliant bursts of characteristic Scandinavian deadpan humour that make you smile. Like a macho singer at the karaoke reminding that “tough guys don’t sing”. Or two cinephiles discussing Jarmusch’s film in the same breath as Jean-Luc Godard and Robert Bresson.

    Love might be reticent in Kaurismaki’s world but not entirely absent. It comes home to Ansa in the form of a stray, who she names Chaplin. Dogs after all are unconditionally giving where humans stay woefully stingy with emotions. Incidentally, the mutt who played Chaplin won the Grand Jury prize in Palm Dog, the independent canine competition at Cannes, even as the film itself won the jury prize in the official competition section.

    Like the filmmaking itself, the romance might feel spartan but eventually turns out rich, beautiful and affirming with the deceptively easy but fabulously synergistic performances from Poysti and Vatanen. And more so with Kaurismaki’s thoughtful and thought-through homages to Cinema. The radio broadcast of the Russian aggression in Ukraine forms a permanent soundtrack in the film as much as Kaurismaki’s pick of his own favourite songs. The choice of music along with Jarmusch’s film on the zombie apocalypse becomes emblematic of the larger catastrophes and devastation in the real world.

    Ansa and Holappa’s concerted search for love then is like a counter-dote. The two might be in need of it but so is the world at large, more now than ever before. Kaurismaki fashions a gentle, profound, hopeful cinematic gem about the human condition in Fallen Leaves that is of the times yet timeless.

  • Park Chan-wook sets up period thriller ‘War and Revolt’, his first project at Netflix

    LOS ANGELES: Acclaimed South Korean director Park Chan-wook, known for films such as “Oldboy” and “The Handmaiden”, is headed to Netflix for his maiden project with the streamer titled “War and Revolt”.

    The award-winning filmmaker will co-write and produce “War and Revolt”, a period thriller following the lives of two childhood friends-turned-adversaries during Korea’s Joseon dynasty.

    According to entertainment website The Hollywood Reporter, Kim Sang-man of “Midnight FM” fame will direct the upcoming movie.

    The Korean-language feature film stars Gang Dong-won (“Broker”, “Peninsula”) and Park Jeong-min (“Deliver Us from Evil”, “Bleak Night”) in the lead.

    Gang will play the enigmatic Cheon-young, a character whose remarkable martial prowess defies his humble origins as a slave, and Park Jeong-min will essay the role of Jong-ryeo, Cheon-young’s former master and scion of Joseon’s most influential military family.

    After passing the military service exam, Jong-ryeo becomes King Seonjo’s personal guard, leading to a heart-wrenching reunion with his former friend.

    “Struggling to break free from the chains of servitude, Cheon-young will be brought to life by Gang’s extraordinary talent, exuding charm and delivering breathtaking action sequences that will leave audiences in awe…”Park’s portrayal is expected to be nothing short of mesmerizing, as he delves deep into the complex psyche of a man torn between friendship and duty, ultimately facing his own downfall,” Netflix said in a press release.

    “War and Revolt” also stars Cha Seung-won (Korean drama “Our Blues”) as King Seonjo, a monarch who abandons his people at the onset of the Japanese invasion, only to seek redemption by restoring his royal authority after the war; “Hellbound” actor Kim Shin-rok as the resolute Bumdong, a member of the civilian militia; Jin Seon-kyu of “The Outlaws” fame as Kim Ja-ryeong, a civilian militia leader; and “The Glory” star Jung Sung-il as the intimidating Japanese warlord Genshin, a mentor to Gang’s Cheon-young.

    The film is produced by Moho Film, the Korean banner behind Park Chan-wook’s last release “Decision to Leave” and “The Handmaiden”, in collaboration with Semicolon Studio.

    Park Chan-wook’s next project as a director is the HBO miniseries “The Sympathizer”, starring Robert Downey Jr in multiple roles.

    Idris Elba is the newest addition to the cast of Chris Hemsworth’s actioner sequel Extraction 2. It may be noted that Elba played Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where Hemsworth played Thor. The makers broke the news through a short teaser released by the streaming giant Netflix.     LOS ANGELES: Marvel Studios on Tuesday announced that its upcoming fourth “Captain America” movie is titled “Brave New World”.

    The studio shared the new title of the movie, which was earlier named “Captain America: New World Order”, on Twitter.

    “Captain America: Brave New World. In theatres May 3, 2024,” a post on Marvel Studios’ official page read.

    The makers also shared a first-look photo of stars Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford on the film’s set.

    Marvel Studios announced in July last year that “Captain America 4″ would be titled”New World Order” and be released on May 3, 2024.

    The film marks Anthony Mackie’s maiden outing as the titular hero in a feature film. He started in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the Falcon and took on the Captain America role in the Disney+ series ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’

    “Captain America: Brave New World” is directed by Julius Onah.

    He has also co-written the film with Malcolm Spellman, who was the creator of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” Ford is making his MCU debut in the film as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who is the President of the United States in ‘Brave New World.’

    Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson are reprising their roles of Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns from ‘The Incredible Hulk.’ Actors Shira Haas and Danny Ramirez round out the cast.

    Chris Evans originated the role of Captain America in the MCU.

    James Cameron’s latest film at the theatres, Avatar: The Way of Water is all set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on June 7. An American epic science fiction film, ‘Avatar 2’ had a screenplay written by James Cameron along with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

    Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster, is set more than a decade after the story of the first film ends.

    It follows Jake and Neyitiri as they build their family and battle their past, which seems to be catching up with them. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet.

    Avatar: The Way of Water hit theatres on December 16, 2022. The film was appreciated for its visual effects and technical achievements and criticised for its plotline and lengthy runtime.

    Having had great success at the box office, the film is the highest-grossing film of 2022, the highest-grossing film since the pandemic, and the third-highest-grossing film of all time.

Actors Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Myra Molloy, will feature as the leads along with a cast comprising Khobe Clarke, Brooke Lena Johnson, Sara Silva, Sean Patrick Thomas, and John Harlan Kim.

    The upcoming series is set in Washington DC and comes from writers Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman, along with  Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios and Original Film. The series will premiere on Prime Video with the date yet to be announced. The original film, which was released in 1999, was directed by Roger Kumble and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair.

    Inspired by the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Choderlos de Laclos, the series revolves around two step-siblings who can go to any extent to achieve what they want. Phoebe will be writing the series while Sarah will be supervising.
