  • ‘PM Modi To Play Important Role’: Indian Envoy To Italy Ahead Of G7 Summit |

Fasano (Italy): A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Italy to attend the G7 Summit, where India has been invited as an Outreach Country, the Indian ambassador to Italy, Vani Rao said that

PM Modi will play an important role in one of the global platforms, to engage with other world leaders present at the G7 Summit on issues of importance to India, as well as to the Global South.

Speaking to ANI, Envoy Vani Rao said that PM Modi will also follow up on some of the key issues that were there during India’s G20 presidency.

“It is an important visit. Firstly, it is an opportunity for the prime minister to play an important role in one of the global platforms. It also marks continuity because he had participated in the G7 summit last year,” the ambassador said.

PM Modi is set to visit Italy to participate in the annual summit of G7 advanced economies, marking his first international trip since beginning his third consecutive term in office. The G7 summit will take place at the luxurious Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy’s Apulia region from June 13 to 15.

India’s participation at this G7 Summit acquires particular salience in the context of India’s recently held, not so recent, presidency of the G20, where India took a leading role in building global consensus on several contentious issues. India has so far organized two sessions of the Voice of the Global South Summit, which have been aimed at bringing the interests, priorities, and concerns of the Global South on the global stage.

“It allows the prime minister to also follow up on some of the key issues that we had in the G-20 presidency, which he had chaired last year. It’s an invitation to the prime minister from the Italian prime minister. India has been selected as a partner for the G7 summit. If I’m not mistaken, India is the only Asian country to be selected as a partner. It is an opportunity also to speak on some of the issues like food security, energy, clean technologies, AI, and other aspects, which are very important to the Global South, ” she said.

This will be India’s 11th participation in the G7 Summit and Prime Minister Modi’s fifth consecutive participation at the G7 Summit. On the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy, PM Modi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings and discussions with the leaders of the G7, as well as the Outreach Countries and the international organizations.

The ambassador emphasised that issues including food security, energy, clean technologies and AI will be discussed.

“Issues like food security, energy, clean technologies, AI and other aspects, will be an important agenda item here for the prime minister to share his views and thoughts,” she told ANI.

Responding on whether there will be any bilateral agreements signed during the bilateral meeting with Italian PM Meloni, the ambassador said that “definitely”, there will be some progress in the bilateral collaboration and agenda.

“It would be very premature for me to mention what are the outcomes of that meeting. But definitely, the high-level meeting itself is a big signal that the two leaders are invested in the relationship and the two countries want to elevate their cooperation in many domains, ” Rao said.

Highlighting whether the Russia-Ukraine war and the Middle East conflict will be on the agenda during the G7 Summit, the Indian ambassador stressed that as the meeting is going to be held amid these global developments, these issues will also be on the agenda.

“The G7 and the partners will engage on a variety of issues. One is, the key economic issues that are on the table right now, which include food security, climate change, sustainable development, the role of artificial intelligence, energy security and others. These will be one set of issues,” she said.

The ambassador added, “But obviously because the meeting itself is taking amid very key global and regional developments, they will also be on the agenda of the leaders. And India’s position on many of these issues is well known and the prime minister would be articulating his thoughts on how to address these issues,” she added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to leave for Italy on Thursday to participate in the 50th G7 Summit.

Addressing a special briefing on PM Modi’s upcoming visit, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said, “At the invitation of Prime Minister of Italy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Apulia, Italy tomorrow to participate in the 50th G7 Summit which is to be held there on June 14 where India has been invited as an Outreach Country.”

During the Summit, PM Modi is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Giorgia Meloni.
“They last met during the COP28 Summit in Abu Dhabi in December 2023,” Kwatra said.

In the meeting, the two Prime Ministers are expected to review the entire gamut of bilateral ties and give directions for next steps, he said.

Italy is the Chair of G7 this year and is hosting the Summit of the informal grouping of seven of the world’s advanced economies which also includes Canada, France, Germany Japan the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as the European Union.

  • Mahatma Gandhi’s Statue Vandalised By Pro-Khalistan Elements Ahead Of PM Modi’s Visit To Italy, MEA Reacts |

New Delhi: A statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian Freedom Fighter also known as ‘Father of the Nation’ was vandalised in the Italian city of Brindisi by pro-Khalistani extremists on Wednesday. The incident took place a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Italy for the G7 Summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday raised the issue of the vandalisation of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue by Khalistani separatists in Italy.

“We have seen the reports and taken it up with the Italian authorities. We understand that a suitable rectification has already been made. The effort to vandalise the statue, which is, of course, deplorable, has been addressed and the necessary rectification is done,” said Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, IANS reported.

The incident comes just before PM Modi’s visit to Italy for the G7 Summit’s Outreach Sessions which is scheduled to be held on Friday.

Earlier, the Khalistani goons had defaced BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Sydney’s Rosehill with anti-India graffiti just before PM Modi arrived in Australia after attending the G7 and Quad Leaders’ Summit in Hiroshima.

  • PM Requests Supporters To Remove ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ Suffix From Social Media Handles |

New Delhi: Thanking millions of his supporters for lending massive support during the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged them to remove ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ from their social media profiles, asserting that the message of “everyone being one family has been effectively conveyed”. “Through the election campaign, people across India added ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ to their social media as a mark of affection towards me. I derived a lot of strength from it,” PM Modi posted on X.

The slogan had found a strong resonance on the ground and struck a right chord with lakhs of citizens over the past few months after PM Modi, while responding to RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s taunting remarks on not having a family, declared that the whole country and its 140 crore citizens are his family.

On Tuesday, PM Modi thanked the people of India for giving the NDA a majority for the third consecutive time, saying that it is “a record of sorts” and has given the BJP-led NDA government the mandate to keep working for the betterment of the nation.

“With the message of all of us being one family having been effectively conveyed, I would once again thank the people of India and request that you may now remove ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ from your social media properties. The display name may change, but our bond as one Parivar striving for India’s progress remains strong and unbroken,” he said.

Several apps, merchandise, and even songs with ‘Main hoon Modi Ka Parivar’ theme have been launched in the past few months with all BJP leaders, ministers, and supporters updating their social media profiles by putting ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ next to their name.

  • Road Safety Revolution – Embracing the Better Guy Within |

    The Campaign and Zee’s Association

The main goal of the “Be the Better Guy” campaign”  is to reduce road accidents and encourage safe driving practices. In 2023, India saw an approximate 11.6% increase in road accidents, despite improvements in road infrastructure and vehicle safety features. The government has taken several steps towards enhancing road safety, but individual actions remain crucial.

Last year, Hyundai Motor India and Zee News reached out to new and existing drivers at the Noida RTO, informing them about traffic rules, warning signs, and conducting driving tests for new drivers. This year, the campaign continues with a renewed focus on individual responsibility and community involvement.

The Importance of Being an Empathetic Road User

Being a road safety hero entails more than just adhering to traffic rules; it requires embodying patience, tolerance, and a spirit of assistance.

Consider the story of a driver who, upon witnessing a serious accident, stopped to provide first aid and called emergency services, ultimately saving lives. Such acts of empathy and responsibility highlight the profound impact individuals can have on road safety.

Another example is the group of cyclists in Mumbai who organized awareness rides, promoting helmet use and safe cycling practices. Their efforts have not only increased safety for cyclists but have also fostered a culture of mutual respect among road users.

    Creating a Chain-of-Change: #BeTheBetterGuy

To create lasting change, we must all commit to being the ‘Better Guy’ on the roads. This means more than just following rules; it means setting an example and inspiring others to do the same. Here’s how you can contribute:

Buckle Up: Always wear your seat belt, whether you’re driving or a passenger
Respect Traffic Rules: Follow speed limits diligently and obey traffic signals
Stay Sober: Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Ditch Distractions: Avoid using mobile phones or other distractions while driving
Prioritize Pedestrians: Show respect for pedestrians by allowing them to cross safely
Yield to Emergency Vehicles: Clear the path for emergency service vehicles to facilitate their swift passage

By embracing these guidelines, let’s contribute to making Indian roads safer for everyone, and create a road accident-free society where every journey is a safe journey.

An Appeal to Join the Movement

We urge you to be a part of this transformative journey. By sharing your commitment to road safety and encouraging others to do the same, we can create a ‘Chain-of-Change’. Use the hashtag #BeTheBetterGuy to share your stories and inspire others. Remember, it’s not just about following rules; it’s about embodying the values of patience, tolerance, and assistance.

Together, let’s pave the way for a safer tomorrow. Drive responsibly, understand your social and environmental responsibilities, and let’s be the better guy.
