  • UPSC Success Story: Meet IAS Anshuman Raj Who Studied Under Kerosene Lamp, Cracked UPSC Without Coaching |

New Delhi: Countless individuals aspiring to join the ranks of the Indian Administrative Service invest significant sums of money in rigorous preparation for the Civil Services Exam (CSE), widely acknowledged as one of the most challenging tests in India. Yet amidst the sea of aspirants, there exist a select few who defy the odds, triumphing over the formidable CSE without the aid of formal coaching.

One such exemplar of resilience and determination is IAS officer Anshuman Raj. While many aspirants devote years to their preparation endeavors, extraordinary individuals like Anshuman Raj navigate the complexities of the exam sans coaching assistance.

Hailing from the modest environs of Bihar’s Buxar district, Anshuman’s upbringing was characterized by profound financial constraints. His family’s meager means deprived them of even basic amenities, compelling Anshuman to illuminate his studies with the faint glow of a kerosene lamp until the completion of his tenth grade. Bereft of luxuries, he forged an unyielding work ethic born of necessity.

Following his matriculation, Anshuman gained admission to Jawaharlal Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), where he pursued his twelfth-grade education and subsequent graduation. It was during his tenure at JNV that he first felt drawn to the allure of the UPSC.

Despite his family’s precarious financial situation and the exorbitant costs associated with preparation in Delhi, Anshuman resolved to pursue his aspirations with unwavering resolve. Refusing to burden his parents with the prospect of liquidating their ancestral holdings, he embarked on his preparation journey independently, eschewing formal coaching.

Struggling to procure study materials from peers and acquaintances, Anshuman remained resolute in his pursuit, never entertaining the notion of capitulation. His diligence bore fruit when he attained the prestigious position of an IRS officer. However, his heart yearned for the loftier echelons of the IAS.

Undeterred, he resolved to make another attempt. This time, his persistence yielded dividends as he clinched an impressive All India Rank of 107 in the UPSC Civil Services Exam. His extraordinary odyssey from the dim glow of a kerosene lamp to the corridors of bureaucracy stands as a testament to the power of resilience and perseverance, serving as an enduring source of inspiration for those who bemoan their circumstances and fault their families for their financial plight.

  • BJP Invites 25 Nations To Observe Campaigning And Polls In India: 10 Points |

NEW DELHI: In a bold move amidst ongoing political scrutiny, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended invitations to 25 foreign nations to observe the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India. This unprecedented step aims to provide international leaders firsthand insight into India’s democratic process and the BJP’s campaign strategies. As allegations swirl from opposition parties, the BJP’s initiative underscores a commitment to transparency and global engagement. Here are the key highlights of this significant development:

    1. Unprecedented Move By BJP: Amid ongoing allegations from opposition parties, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken an unprecedented step by inviting 25 foreign nations to witness the campaigning and electoral process in India.

    2. Global Interest in India’s Elections: Reports indicate that leaders from various political parties across the globe will be visiting India during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, invited by the BJP to observe the scale of the polls and understand the party’s campaign strategies.

    3. Invitation Details: The BJP has extended invitations to over 25 parties from foreign countries to send their representatives to observe India’s Lok Sabha polls, which are recognized as the world’s largest democratic exercise. Thirteen parties have confirmed their visits so far, with further details to be disclosed later.

    4. Exclusion Of US Parties: Notably, neither of the two major US parties, the Democrats nor the Republicans, have been invited. A BJP leader explained that the US parties’ own presidential elections preoccupy them, and their organizational structure differs significantly from that of Indian or European parties.

    5. Invitations To UK and Germany: The Conservative and Labour parties of the UK, as well as the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats of Germany, have been invited by the BJP.

    6. Omission Of Pakistan and China: Due to strained relations with Pakistan and the absence of invitations to the Communist Party of China (CPC), these political entities have not been included in the foreign observers’ list.

    7. Focus On Neighbouring Nations: Only the ruling Awami League from Bangladesh has been invited, while the opposition BNP has not, following its association with an ‘India Out’ campaign on social media.

8, Inclusion Of Nepal & Sri Lanka: All prominent political parties from Nepal and Sri Lanka have received invitations from the BJP, indicating a comprehensive approach to neighbouring countries.

    9. Schedule and Itinerary: The BJP anticipates that invited leaders will visit India during the third or fourth phase of the elections, scheduled for the second week of May. Foreign observers will be briefed in Delhi before visiting multiple constituencies and engaging with party leaders and candidates.

    10. BJP’s Outreach Initiatives: This initiative aligns with the BJP’s broader efforts for external outreach, including the KNOW BJP initiative under party president J P Nadda. The party aims to provide foreign delegates with insights into Indian democracy and the BJP’s electoral strategies.

By inviting international observers, the BJP seeks to showcase the scale and depth of its electoral campaigns while fostering a deeper understanding of Indian democracy among global political players.

  • Arvind Kejriwal Arrest LIVE Updates: Delhi CM Moves SC Against HC Order On Arrest |

Arvind Kejriwal Arrest LIVE Updates: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi high court verdict upholding his arrest related to a money laundering case connected to a alleged excise scam. Vivek Jain, Kejriwal’s legal representative, told news agency PTI that they have challenged the Delhi HC order in the apex court. The Delhi High Court’s decision to sustain Kejriwal’s arrest dealt a significant setback to the Chief Minister just before the Lok Sabha elections.

The court remarked that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was left with ‘little option’ but to proceed with the arrest due to Kejriwal’s consistent absence from summons and his refusal to participate in the probe.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said that Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh were scheduled to visit Kejriwal at Tihar Jail, which has now been deferred. The jail authorities have cited security concerns as the reason for the postponement, news agency IANS reported.

“Yesterday, the time for Bhagwant Mann and Sanjay Singh to meet Kejriwal was fixed. Now, Tihar Jail will inform about the new time,” said AAP.  “The administration had received a letter for a meeting with CM Kejriwal,” IANS quoted jail sources as saying.

“The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Tihar will respond today. The reply will address security measures and propose alternative dates for the meeting. Sanjay Singh and CM Bhagwant Mann may then visit CM Kejriwal on the suggested dates, should they choose to,” a source from the prison administration stated.

Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 over allegations related to the excise scam. Since his arrest, Kejriwal has been under the ED’s authority, followed by his transfer to Tihar Jail.

DMK Busy Promoting Family Rule: Modi

Modi alleged that DMK took votes from the people of Chennai for years but did nothing much for the city. “DMK is busy furthering corruption and family rule. Their MPs are not accessible to the people, particularly whenever the times are challenging. The recent public information on the Katchatheevu surrender point to how Congress and DMK were complicit in harming our strategic interests and the well-being of our fishermen and fisherwomen. No wonder this time, Chennai is all set to reject DMK and Congress,” he said.

    Modi Recounts Development Work

Modi assured that the NDA government will keep working for the welfare of the vibrant city. “Over the last few years, I have come here very often to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for key projects which will boost ‘Ease of Living.’ At the root of this is connectivity. Recently, the new integrated terminal building at Chennai airport was inaugurated. In the coming times, railway stations here including Egmore Station are going to be redeveloped,” he said.

PM Modi also recounted the launch of Vande Bharat Express connecting Chennai to different cities. “Thanks to Vande Bharat Express, connectivity between Chennai-Coimbatore and Chennai-Mysuru has also been enhanced. The Chennai Metro network is being expanded, thus helping the professionals working in the city. Key road projects like the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway and the expansion of other existing road projects will improve commerce and connectivity,” said the BJP leaders.

The BJP leader claimed that remarkable work is underway in the housing sector as lakhs of houses have been built across Tamil Nadu under PM-Awas Yojana. “Some time ago, many houses built as a part of Light House Project were inaugurated thus giving wings to several aspirations. Our Government is also working on projects like a Multi-Modal Logistics Park and a Discovery Campus at IIT-Madras, which will boost business as well as innovation,” said Modi.

Invoking Tamil Culture To Woo Voters

Invoking the Tamil culture to woo the voters, Modi said that the NDA government accords topmost respect to Tamil culture and added that he felt proud after getting an opportunity to speak a few words in Tamil language at the UN. “We will continue to make Tamil culture and language popular at the world stage. Two years ago, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil was inaugurated which will further popularise aspects of Tamil culture. Earlier this year, the revamped channel DD Tamil was launched which will again be instrumental in celebrating the culture of this great state,” Modi promised.

    Development Promise

Modi said that the NDA Government will keep working in sectors like roads, ports, urban transportation, culture, commerce, connectivity, energy and more. He said that the central government will also address key issues in Chennai like strengthening the disaster management apparatus, which makes us better prepared when calamities like floods strike. We will also keep supporting the MSME sector, a vital pillar of economic growth.

  • ‘AAP’s Arrogance Has Been Shattered’: BJP After Delhi HC Rejects Arvind Kejriwal’s Plea In Liquor Policy Case |

NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday came down heavily on the Aam Admi Party after the Delhi High Court dismissed Chief Minister Arvind Kjriwal’s bail challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the liquor policy money laundering case. Addressing a press conference, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said the Delhi High Court’s verdict has shattered the AAP’a arrogance today. “Aam Aadmi Party’s arrogance has been shattered. The self-proclaimed honest character (of Arvind Kejriwal) has also been shattered by facts and proofs,” BJP’s spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said.

#WATCH | Delhi: After Delhi High Court dismisses CM Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest ED in the Excise Policy money laundering case, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP’s spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi says, “Aam Aadmi Party’s arrogance has been shattered. The self-proclaimed… pic.twitter.com/4koWnR3347
    — ANI (@ANI) April 9, 2024

The BJP leader further stated, “For the so-called Aam Aadmi chief minister, the court has clearly said that the law cannot be different for the common man and AAP’s chief minister…The ‘Aam Aadmi’ cape has been pulled off as he (Arvind Kejriwal) wanted the treatment of a ‘Khas Aadmi’.”

The reaction from the BJP came after the Delhi High Court dismissed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Excise policy case and said that Kejriwal’s arrest is not in contravention of Law and remand can’t be termed “illegal”.

The bench of Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma said ED was in possession of enough material which had led them to arrest Kejriwal. Non-joining of the investigation by Kejriwal, the delay caused by him also impacting those in judicial custody.

The material collected by the Enforcement Directorate reveals that Arvind Kejriwal conspired and was actively involved in the use and concealment of proceeds of crime. The ED case also reveals that he was involved in his personal capacity as well as the convenor of Aam Aadmi Party.

The court further stated that this court is of the opinion that the accused has been arrested and his arrest and remand have to be examined as per law and not as per the timing of elections. Kejriwal’s challenge to the timing of arrest before General elections in the absence of any mala fide on part of ED not sustainable, said the court.

Arvind Kejriwal through the plea alleged that the ED has at the time of arrest “failed to establish” that the petitioner is guilty of committing activities stipulated under Section 3, i.e., be it one of concealment, possession, acquisition, use of proceeds of crime as much as projecting it as untainted property or claiming it to be so.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in relation to the excise policy case. The trial court on April 1, sent Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15, 2024. ED alleged that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged liquor scam. The agency also claimed that Kejriwal was directly involved in the formation of the excise policy.

Delhi Liquor Policy Case: A Background

The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi Excise Policy 2022, which was later scrapped.

While Kejriwal was not named in the FIRs registered by the ED or the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Delhi excise policy case, his name first found a mention in the ED’s chargesheet, wherein the agency claimed that he allegedly spoke to one of the main accused, Sameer Mahendru, in a video call and asked him to continue working with co-accused and AAP communications-in-charge Vijay Nair.

Nair was among the first people to be arrested by the CBI in the case, in 2022. Subsequently, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh were arrested in connection with the case. The latter, however, was granted bail by the Supreme Court last week.

  • The Mandi Battle: Will Kangana Ranaut Be Able To Fight The Monarch’s Realm? |

New Delhi: In the 18th Lok Sabha elections of the country, the ‘Mandi’ seat of Himachal Pradesh has not only attracted the attention of the nation but has also been buzzing with its spectacular entry into Bollywood politics. Mandi, which used to be the market of kings, is seeing a new bloom of stage politics.

By fielding the Rajput Bollywood actress Ranaut in this excellent and already highly favourable seat, the BJP has courted several controversies. It was also a convenient seat for the BJP because out of the 10 assembly constituencies in Mandi district, 9 were already in the BJP’s kitty, and the BJP’s vote margin in the remaining assembly constituencies of the Mandi parliamentary seat was very low in 2022. However, by fielding Kangana Ranaut from this seat, the BJP suddenly found itself embroiled in controversies at the national level, especially since Kangana already had many well-wishers from Bollywood. The direct impact of the “Jagati Samaj” of Himachal Pradesh on this actress and candidate who is constantly trolled on social media is evident. It is another matter that Kangana’s social media guardian is also putting up a tough fight.

However, the Congress has not yet clarified its cards regarding its probable candidate. As soon as the candidate is announced, the star attraction will take on a new form.

The politics of the Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh has been controversial as well as interesting because those contesting from here have never been from an ordinary background. Maheshwar Singh from the royal family won three times, Virbhadra Singh twice, his wife Pratibha Singh twice, former Union Minister Pandit Sukh Ram three times.

Virbhadra belonged to the Bushehar princely state, Maheshwar to Kullu, and Sukh Ram hailed from Mandi district. Moreover, even Jairam Thakur was defeated from here. However, after becoming the Chief Minister, he gained such a strong foothold in Mandi that Ram Swaroop, associated with the RSS, won handsomely in 2019. But when he committed suicide in Delhi, Pratibha Singh won again with 49.23 percent of the votes, even though the BJP’s Jairam government was in power in the state at that time.

Overall, the Mandi seat elections take on a new direction and dimension every time. The BJP has placed its bet on celebrity Kangana. However, even before Kangana’s candidature was announced, Pratibha Singh had declared that she would not contest. It was believed that Pratibha did not want to come forward due to the Modi wave. That’s why she also talked about the neglect of workers in her own government in Mandi. Amid this, as soon as Kangana’s candidature was announced from Delhi, accompanied by a blitzkrieg of social media commentary, the Mandi seat became super hot. While the party workers in Mandi were thrilled to see the superstar in person, the senior party leaders in Mandi were overshadowed by Kangana’s presence. Although the outspoken Kangana refuted the allegations in Mandeali, the local voters who speak Pangi, Lahul, Rampur, Chhatri, Saraj, and Mandi dialects were perplexed by her mixed Bilaspuri and Sarkaghati dialect. After all, Kangana’s next challenge would be to speak these local dialects as well.

In fact, the Mandi parliamentary constituency has 17 assembly segments, including four from Kullu district and one each from Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Shimla districts. Mandi has 9 seats, which means that the Mandi parliamentary area covers 6 districts, and all 6 districts have different dialects.

In these 17 assembly constituencies, there is a close contest between the two parties. However, the BJP gets a substantial vote share from Jairam’s seat in Saraj, Anil Sharma’s seat in Mandi, Janak Raj’s seat in Bharmour, and Rakesh Jamwal’s seat in Sundarnagar. Kangana’s weight also increases due to these BJP seats in Mandi district.

But the challenges are not few either. As the campaign picks up pace, the Congress will launch a full-fledged attack. Whether it’s Kangana’s pictures, her outspoken statements, or issues related to her diet and lifestyle that go against the ideology of the Sangh and the party, they will create hurdles for her.

The influence and resentment of the large Dev community led by BJP’s senior leader and former MP Maheshwar Singh from Kullu will not make Kangana’s path as smooth as it could have been for an ordinary worker like Ram Swaroop. If the Virbhadra family jumps into the fray, then the unity of the royal family and the Devlu community will also show its impact in the region.

Due to Kangana’s glamour, the charm of any big local leader is fading. As a result, the importance of big leaders standing on the stage has diminished. This issue could also impact the elections. However, as a bold actress, Kangana is also the favorite of the youth. From this perspective, even if Ranaut does not get the workers’ votes, the fan votes might be enough.

It is being said that the Congress is still gauging the mood. It will announce the candidate after a little delay. Stalwarts like the mother Pratibha Singh, or the son Vikramaditya will be the Congress’s weapons. If Vikramaditya takes over his father’s mantle, then Kangana’s difficulties could increase. Like his father, Singh is also quite popular among the youth.

It is worth mentioning that in the 2021 Lok Sabha by-election, Congress candidate Pratibha Singh received 365,650 votes, while BJP’s Khushal Singh got 356,664 votes, with a vote margin of only 1.18 percent. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Ram Swaroop Sharma received 647,189 votes, while Congress’s Aashray Sharma got 241,730 votes, with a vote margin of 43 percent. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Ram Swaroop got 362,824 votes, while Congress’s Pratibha Singh received 322,968 votes, with a vote margin of 5.5 percent.

It has to be observed whether Kangana’s Bollywood image and her social media management would dilute the Modi’s wave on development and the simplicity of Himachal’s former CM Jai Ram Thakur, in the constituency? Or will she make her own way into politics, keeping aside all the controversies as an actress?

  • In Rajasthan’s Barmer, Ravindra Singh Bhati Sets Stage For BJP vs ‘Independent BJP’ Battle |

The BJP has fielded Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and sitting MP from Barmer, from the Lok Sabha seat once again. However, this time, Choudhary is facing a familiar challenger – Ravindra Singh Bhati. Bhati has filed his nomination paper independently after he was denied a ticket by the BJP. According to reports, the BJP tried to convince Bhati to not contest from the seat independently but he did not buzz.

    Triangular Contest In Barmer

Ravindra Singh Bhati is currently MLA from the Sheo Constituency and wanted to contest the parliamentary polls on the BJP ticket. Bhati has been a popular leader since his college days but has been ignored by the BJP on many occasions. Now, the Barmer seat will have a triangular contest from the seat. Congress has fielded Umedaram, former RLP leader and close aide of Hanuman Beniwal from the seat. Umedaram is a leader with an impeccable image.

Barmer majorly has Jat and Rajput voters. With Bhati contesting from the seat, he is likely to get support of Rajput voters. However, Choudhary and Umedaram are Jat leaders and thus may witness a split in Jat voters that may benefit Bhati.

    Bhati’s BJP Pitch

The BJP has moved the election commission against Ravindra Singh Bhati’s poll campaign in which he is using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo with the caption “Forgive Us Modi Ji. We are giving you Ravindra in place of Kailash. I am Modi’s family”. The pamphlet bears the photo of Narendra Modi and Ravindra Singh Bhati. Bhati has made it clear that even if he wins as an independent candidate, will extend support to Modi.

    Ravindra Bhati’s Rebellious History

Ravindra Singh Bhati has been a courageous leader since his college days. It was his rebellious nature that won him accolades. When Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) did not give him a ticket for the student elections at Jay Narayan Vyas University, he contested independently and for the first time in its 57-year history, became the independent president of the university. The rebellion did not end there. Before the 2023 Assembly elections, when the BJP denied him a ticket from the Sheo constituency in Barmer, Bhati once again entered the independent arena and defeated 84-year-old senior Congress leader Amin Khan with a record victory margin creating history. For the third time, Ravindra Bhati has filed an independent nomination from the Barmer Lok Sabha seat. This time, he will challenge BJP’s central minister Kailash Choudhary.
