With more than 150,000 DPIIT-recognized startups and a powerful industrial infrastructure, Maharashtra is cementing its reputation as India's premier destination for innovation and entrepreneurship. Speaking at the CII-HBNI Research Scholars Summit, Dr. P. Anbalagan, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department, detailed how the state is leveraging its strengths in technology investment and startup support to boost economic growth. Maharashtra contributes 14 percent to India's GDP and nearly 25 percent to its industrial production, with major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur emerging as hotspots for fintech, deep-tech, manufacturing, and engineering research. The state's innovation ecosystem is actively promoting research-based entrepreneurship and creating high-quality jobs while enhancing global competitiveness.
