The Rajya Sabha launched its 270th session amid high expectations as the Budget Session unfolds in New Delhi. Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, the Vice President, outlined an ambitious agenda featuring 30 meetings to dissect the 2026-27 Union Budget and government bills.
In his opening remarks, Radhakrishnan highlighted India’s stellar economic performance. ‘It’s a matter of pride that India is advancing rapidly towards becoming the third largest economy,’ he declared, pointing to its status as the fastest-growing among major economies.
He stressed the pivotal role of Parliament in steering the nation’s economic direction, especially with India’s rising global influence. Committees will thoroughly review departmental grants during breaks, ensuring accountability.
Urging MPs to engage effectively, he said comprehensive legislative work demands optimal use of time. Key bills are on the horizon, promising vigorous debates aligned with national priorities from the President’s speech.
Radhakrishnan advocated for dignified conduct: ‘Let this session exemplify decorum, discipline, and graceful behavior.’ Invoking Gandhi’s wisdom on disciplined democracy, he adjourned the House until February 1, 2026. As India eyes economic superpower status, this session holds immense significance.
